BN Series – Process Pumps

Chemical process pumps standardised to ISO 2858 / EN 22858 / ISO 5199

The TECNIUM BN Series are heavy-duty plastic process pumps engineered specifically for the continuous transfer of corrosive and abrasive fluids under demanding industrial conditions. Machined from solid thermoplastic materials, these pumps combine outstanding chemical resistance with rugged mechanical performance, ensuring safe and long-lasting operation in aggressive environments.

BN Series horizontal centrifugal pump — back pull-out

Monobloc casing machined from solid thermoplastic

The BN Series features a solid monobloc casing machined from a single thermoplastic block, delivering maximum rigidity and chemical resistance.

The impeller is of closed type, ensuring high hydraulic efficiency and reduced turbulence. A steel shaft, fully protected by a removable plastic sleeve, prevents corrosion and simplifies maintenance.

The modular “back pull-out” design enables the complete removal of the rotor assembly without disconnecting the suction or discharge piping.

Critical services

The mechanical seal housing is engineered for a high stress-relief rate of the plastic, machined for reliability and preventing deformation during operation.

Why choose the BN Series

  • Steel core with keyed impeller connection
  • Independent, removable shaft sleeve, isolated from the impeller
  • Standard DIN 2501 flange (PN 10)
  • Minimum maintenance even under the most demanding operating conditions
  • Easy access to rotating parts thanks to the fully sealed mechanical cover design
  • CE compliant in accordance with the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
  • ATEX-certified versions available (Directive 2014/34/EU) for use in explosive atmospheres

Solid thermoplastics

A wide range of corrosion-resistant thermoplastics to guarantee maximum compatibility with industrial process fluids.

PPPolypropylene
UHMW-PEUltra-high molecular weight polyethylene
PVDFPolyvinylidene fluoride
E-CTFEEthylene chlorotrifluoroethylene
PVCPolyvinyl chloride
PTFEPolytetrafluoroethylene

Mixed configurations are also available, combining different thermoplastics: for example, a structural casing in PP or UHMW-PE with wetted parts in PVDF or PTFE — to optimise cost efficiency according to the specific process requirements.

FAQs about the BN Series

The most common queries about the BN Series: standards, materials, replacement of metallic pumps and operation.

What is the advantage of the ISO 2858 standard in a plastic pump?

Compliance with ISO 2858 / EN 22858 / ISO 5199 ensures interchangeability of flange dimensions, connections and baseplate with any standardised pump on the market. This means that a BN pump can replace an obsolete metallic pump — or a pump from a different manufacturer — without modifying piping, anchoring or baseplate. A decisive argument for brownfield projects and industrial maintenance programmes.

When should you choose a solid plastic pump over a lined metallic pump?

The BN Series is machined from a solid thermoplastic block, with no liners. Compared with a metallic pump featuring a PTFE or rubber lining, it avoids the typical weak points of coatings: blisters, debonding and damage caused by entrained particles. It is the preferred option when the fluid is aggressive, contains abrasive solids or runs in thermal cycles that compromise the adhesion of the lining.

Which thermoplastic material should be selected for each fluid?

PP covers the majority of applications at moderate temperature (HCl, NaOH, brines). UHMW-PE provides excellent abrasion resistance. PVDF is the option for strong oxidising acids and higher temperatures (up to 90 °C). E-CTFE and PTFE handle the most demanding chemicals (concentrated sulphuric acid, HF, oxidisers). PVC is suitable for low-temperature processes with a good chemical-resistance-to-cost ratio. TECNIUM carries out a case-by-case match based on the fluid analysis.

What does "back pull-out" mean and why is it important?

“Back pull-out” means that the rotor assembly (shaft, impeller, mechanical seal, bearing bracket) can be removed from the rear of the pump without touching the suction or discharge piping or the hydraulic casing. This dramatically reduces maintenance time: a seal or impeller can be replaced in a matter of hours without disconnecting the plant from the process loop.

Can several materials be combined in the same pump?

Yes. TECNIUM offers mixed configurations: for example, an outer structural casing in PP or UHMW-PE (more economical) with all wetted parts in PVDF, E-CTFE or PTFE. This is how cost/performance is optimised when the fluid is highly aggressive but the external environment is not.

Is there an ATEX version for hazardous areas?

Yes. The BN Series is available in ATEX-certified versions according to Directive 2014/34/EU for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. These versions include antistatic plastics, bearing temperature sensors, mechanical seal monitoring and proper earthing connections matched to the required protection level.
