Steel industry and surface treatment
The steel and surface treatment industry includes pickling lines for both stainless steel and carbon steel, galvanising and anodising plants and coil coating facilities. There are several products and applications TECNIUM can contribute to: plastic pumps, double-wall tanks, gas absorbers and gas capture and scrubbing systems.
Corrosion and gaseous emissions in metallurgical processes
Pickling, galvanising, anodising and coil coating lines generate acid emissions and highly corrosive fluids that demand specialised equipment.

Highly corrosive fluids and gases
Surface treatment processes use concentrated acids (hydrochloric, sulphuric, hydrofluoric, nitric, chromic) that generate aggressive gaseous emissions and require pumps and tanks that are fully resistant to chemical corrosion. Conventional metallic equipment cannot withstand these conditions.
- Extraction and scrubbing of acid vapours in pickling lines
- Recirculation pumps for acid and alkaline baths
- Double-wall tanks for safe acid storage
- Chromium mist capture systems in chrome plating
- Gas scrubbing in galvanising and anodising plants
- Corrosion-resistant fans for gas extraction
Equipment tailored to each process
Each surface treatment process has different requirements. Stainless steel pickling uses HF and HNO₃ mixtures, whereas carbon steel pickling uses HCl or H₂SO₄. Hot-dip galvanising generates zinc and acid fumes, and anodising works with H₂SO₄ and H₂CrO₄.
TECNIUM selects the optimal materials and equipment for each application: PP, PVC, PVDF, E-CTFE or FRP, depending on the nature of the fluid, the operating temperature and the chemical concentrations of the process.

Applications in the steel and surface treatment industry
TECNIUM provides specific solutions both for gas scrubbing and for the pumping and storage of corrosive fluids in this sector.

A fluid used in surface treatment is continuously recirculated. For this reason, the pumps employed must be especially resistant to abrasion and corrosion. Reliable equipment so that the pumps are not the bottleneck of the process. TECNIUM has pumps suited to this kind of application.

For this sector, TECNIUM applies its chemical absorption technology, the most suitable for the treatment of acid vapours and process mists.

TECNIUM-CHEM
Under this technology, TECNIUM supplies multiple systems for gas scrubbing and odour control through absorption with water or chemical reagents, using scrubbing towers, venturis and cyclones.
- Single- and multi-stage chemical scrubbing towers
- Capture of acid mists and chromium vapours
- Removal of HCl, HF, HNO₃, H₂SO₄ and CrO₃
- Systems for pickling and galvanising lines
- Corrosion-resistant materials: PP, FRP, PVC, PVDF

Common questions about equipment for surface treatment
TECNIUM supplies gas scrubbing systems for the capture of acid vapours and mists, plastic pumps for the recirculation of acid and alkaline baths, plastic and FRP tanks for the safe storage of chemical products, and corrosion-resistant fans for gas extraction. All equipment is manufactured in corrosion-resistant plastic materials.
TECNIUM has experience in stainless and carbon steel pickling lines, hot-dip galvanising plants, aluminium anodising lines, chrome plating installations and coil coating lines. Each process has different chemical requirements and TECNIUM adapts its equipment to the specific conditions of each application.
In surface treatment, fluids are continuously recirculated through process baths. The pumps must withstand concentrated acids (HCl, HF, HNO₃, H₂SO₄, H₂CrO₄) and the abrasion caused by suspended particulates. TECNIUM plastic pumps are specifically designed for these extreme conditions, guaranteeing long service life and reliable operation without unplanned stops.
TECNIUM applies its chemical absorption technology (TECNIUM-CHEM) for the treatment of emissions in the steel and surface treatment industry. This technology includes chemical scrubbing towers, venturis and cyclones designed to capture and neutralise acid vapours, chromium mists and other emissions generated in metallurgical processes.
TECNIUM manufactures its equipment in a wide range of corrosion-resistant plastic materials: polypropylene (PP), PVC, PVDF, E-CTFE, polyethylene (PE) and glass-fibre reinforced polyester (FRP). Material selection depends on the acid involved, its concentration, the operating temperature and the mechanical requirements of each application.
Yes. TECNIUM manufactures double-wall tanks in plastic materials and FRP for the safe storage of acids and other aggressive chemical products. These tanks incorporate inter-wall leak detection, complying with safety and environmental regulations. Capacities up to 200,000 litres are available.
