Pulp & Paper
The pulp and paper industry is highly water and energy intensive. Pulp digestion and bleaching processes generate effluents that must be treated before they can be reintroduced into the plant.
TECNIUM has many references in pulp and paper plants.
Gaseous emissions and effluents in the pulp & paper industry
Pulp digestion and bleaching processes generate toxic, corrosive gases that must be captured and treated before being released to the atmosphere.

Toxic and corrosive gases in pulp processes
The use of chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) for pulp bleaching generates residual gas streams containing toxic and corrosive compounds that must be treated before being released to the atmosphere. In addition, digestion processes produce emissions with reduced sulphur compounds and other contaminants.
- Anti-corrosion fans for gases containing ClO₂
- Gas scrubbing in pulp-bleaching processes

- Compliance with emission regulations
Specialised fans and technologies
The pulp and paper industry requires fans manufactured in special plastic materials capable of handling gases containing ClO₂ and other corrosive compounds without degradation. TECNIUM supplies the fans suited to these conditions.
In addition, TECNIUM offers two complementary gas scrubbing technologies: biological trickling filters (BIO-TR), which allow chemical scrubbing installations to be retrofitted while eliminating reagent consumption, and chemical absorption (CHEM) for cases that require it.
Fans for ClO₂ bleaching processes
TECNIUM supplies specialised anti-corrosion fans to handle the toxic gases generated in the bleaching of paper pulp.

Two technologies for the pulp & paper industry
TECNIUM has two gas scrubbing technologies tailored to the needs of pulp and paper plants: biological and chemical routes.

TECNIUM BIO-TR
The high efficiency of BIO-TR makes it possible to retrofit chemical-route installations, eliminating the consumption of chemical reagents and therefore removing the on-site storage of chemicals and the corresponding periodic APQ inspections.

Common questions about equipment for the pulp & paper industry
TECNIUM offers anti-corrosion fans for the handling of gases containing ClO₂ generated in the pulp-bleaching process, and two gas scrubbing technologies: biological trickling filters (TECNIUM BIO-TR) and chemical absorption (TECNIUM-CHEM). These systems treat the gaseous emissions of pulp and paper plants in compliance with environmental regulations.
The chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) used in the bleaching of paper pulp is a highly oxidising and corrosive gas. Conventional metallic fans degrade rapidly on contact with these gas streams. TECNIUM manufactures fans in specific plastic materials that resist the action of ClO₂ and guarantee a long service life under these extreme conditions.
TECNIUM BIO-TR (biological trickling filters) offers several advantages over the conventional chemical route: it removes the consumption of chemical reagents, eliminates the need to store hazardous chemicals on site, removes the mandatory periodic APQ inspections, and significantly reduces operating costs. In addition, it makes it possible to retrofit existing chemical-route installations to the biological route.
The pulp and paper industry generates a range of gaseous emissions depending on the process: pulp bleaching produces residual ClO₂ and Cl₂; digestion processes generate reduced sulphur compounds (TRS) such as H₂S, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulphide; and various processes produce VOCs, SO₂ and odorous compounds. TECNIUM has the technologies required to treat each type of emission.
Yes. The high efficiency of TECNIUM BIO-TR technology makes it possible to retrofit existing chemical-route scrubbing installations to the biological route. This conversion removes the consumption of chemical reagents, the storage of hazardous chemicals and the periodic APQ inspections, while maintaining or improving the efficiency of the gas treatment.
Yes. TECNIUM has numerous references in pulp and paper plants, both for anti-corrosion ventilation systems for the handling of ClO₂ gases and for gas scrubbing technologies. With more than 70 years of industrial experience, TECNIUM understands the specific needs of the pulp and paper industry and offers proven solutions.
