Fans with Pulley and Belt Coupling
Range of corrosion-resistant plastic fans for medium and high pressure. The pulley and belt transmission allows the impeller speed to be adjusted to optimise the operating point and reach the highest pressures in the TECNIUM range.
Flow rates up to 120,000 m³/h and pressures up to 7,000 Pa.

MP / MM series with metallic base plate and pulley drive
The MP/MM series is built with a metallic base plate and pulleys, separating the motor from the impeller and allowing the transmission ratio to be adjusted to the exact process conditions.
- Flow rates up to 120,000 m³/h
- Pressures up to 7,000 Pa
- Built in fibreglass-reinforced polyester (FRP). Thermoplastic lining available
- Mechanical torque transmitted to the impeller via metallic key and large-surface steel hub
- Integrated metallic baseplate with motor and accessible belt tensioning

FAQs on pulley-driven fans
The most common queries about indirect coupling, seal selection and materials.
Why choose a pulley and belt drive over direct coupling?
A pulley drive decouples the impeller speed from the motor’s nominal speed. That means you can fine-tune the ratio to obtain exactly the flow rate and pressure your process requires, reaching higher values (up to 120,000 m³/h and 7,000 Pa) than can be achieved with direct coupling. In addition, during operation the ratio can be changed by changing the pulleys if the process conditions evolve.
What are the differences between the MP and MM series?
Both are fans with a base plate and pulley transmission. The differences lie in the construction size, the flow-pressure curve and the motor power. TECNIUM selects the exact version based on the requested operating point (flow and pressure) and the space constraints at the customer’s site.
Which sealing system should I choose for the gas being treated?
The R ring is the most economical option for general corrosive gases without special tightness requirements. The S adds additional leak reduction. The C mechanical seal is the choice when handling toxic or hazardous gases where an external leak is unacceptable. The E automatic gasket offers reinforced tightness in applications with more demanding pressures or hazardous atmospheres.
FRP or solid thermoplastic?
FRP (fibreglass-reinforced polyester) is the usual choice for large fans because it combines excellent chemical resistance, light weight and structural stiffness. For especially aggressive gases (HF, concentrated oxidising acids), internal thermoplastic linings (PP, PVDF, PVC) are used over the FRP structure, combining the best of both worlds. TECNIUM defines the optimum solution on a case-by-case basis.
Does it require more maintenance than direct coupling?
Yes, belt transmission requires periodic inspection of belt condition and tension. It is straightforward and inexpensive maintenance, but it must be taken into account. In return, it provides speed flexibility and greater capacity. For services where maintenance must be minimal and pressure/flow requirements are moderate, the direct coupling (MD series) may be preferable.
Is an ATEX version available?
Yes. The MP/MM series supports ATEX certified configurations under Directive 2014/34/EU for explosive atmospheres. They include an ATEX motor, antistatic materials in impeller and casing, and earthing appropriate to the required protection level. This is the standard configuration in plants with flammable solvents, biogas or processes with zone classification.
