Desalination plants
Drinking water, as a scarce resource, is an asset that must be planned for in its sourcing, use and subsequent purification and/or recycling. One way to obtain potable water is to desalinate seawater. The current state of technology makes it possible to obtain high-quality water through desalination processes.
TECNIUM can supply a range of products for this type of plant, adapted to the specific corrosivity conditions encountered.
Storage and pumping of reagents in desalination plants
Desalination plants use a range of aggressive chemical products that require equipment manufactured in anti-corrosion materials in order to guarantee installation safety and durability.

Chemical reagents in desalination processes
Reverse osmosis and other desalination processes require the dosing of multiple chemical reagents: acids for pH control, coagulants, disinfectants and anti-scalants. All of them are highly corrosive products that need storage and pumping equipment in plastic materials.
- Tanks for the storage of acids and reagents
- Anti-corrosion pumps for dosing and transfer
- Materials resistant to acids, bases and hypochlorite
- Compliance with APQ storage regulations
- Equipment adapted to high-salinity conditions
- Custom manufacturing to project specifications
Anti-corrosion equipment for a demanding environment
The environment of a desalination plant is particularly aggressive: constant presence of brine, concentrated chemicals and marine atmospheric conditions. Conventional metallic equipment degrades rapidly.
TECNIUM supplies tanks and pumps manufactured in plastic materials (PP, PE, PVC, FRP) that guarantee full corrosion resistance and long service life in these extreme conditions.

Common questions about equipment for desalination
TECNIUM supplies two product families for desalination plants: plastic and FRP tanks for the storage of chemical reagents (sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, ferric chloride, sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, aluminium sulphate, etc.) and anti-corrosion pumps in plastic materials (submerged vertical, process and monobloc) for the dosing and transfer of these products.
TECNIUM tanks for desalination plants are manufactured in a range of plastic materials according to the chemical to be stored: FRP (glass-fibre reinforced polyester), PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Material selection is based on chemical compatibility with the reagent, operating temperature and process conditions.
TECNIUM tanks reach capacities of up to 200,000 litres. They are manufactured as atmospheric tanks or as pressure vessels certified to the PED directive. Each tank is sized to project requirements, including cisterns, reactors and stacks in thermoplastic or FRP materials.
TECNIUM offers three pump families for desalination plants: submerged vertical pumps (up to 500 m³/h, ideal for loaded liquids and dry running), process pumps standardised to EN 22858 (up to 1,500 m³/h, for continuous duty with a wide range of mechanical seals), and direct-coupled monobloc pumps (up to 250 m³/h, an economical and compact solution). All manufactured in anti-corrosion plastic materials.
